Erin Ross Description

An accomplished professional in the mediums of painting, printmaking and drawing, Erin’s work aims to challenge her viewers perceptions of beauty, gender and mortality. She uses unexpected subject matter, distorts scale and abstracts color to simultaneously create a push and pull with the audience. In an effort to challenge stereotypes, she has reinterpreted the traditional landscape genre through proportion, unexpected mark making and thought provoking, ambiguous titles. Erin’s landscape paintings draw influence from the color relationships and intimate energy of Mark Rothko’s color field series. Each piece is distinctively emotional, and a contemporary re-imagining of classic subject matter.

Erin has received public attention for her artwork from an early age, executing public commissions, showing in galleries and having her work published. She has received numerous awards and accolades, most notably an award of excellence in Illustration from Communication Arts magazine in 2005, and a feature in their 2005 Design Annual. Erin has done various freelance illustrative projects and has been actively selling her work for the past 10 years.
