About the Artists:

Barbara Amos is an artist who enjoys collaboration and an exchange of ideas. She has
25 years of experience in creating work that encourages inquiry about our role in the
world and the changes that will make it a better place. Projects that address
multicultural issues and environmental concerns have been the context for most of her
artwork. She has created temporal works, insitu artworks, photographic projects,
paintings and sketches as a response to her place in the world and her community.
She is represented by 2 galleries, completed 5 public art commissions and has over 20
years of experience on boards for non-profits. She has a degree from the U of Waterloo.
In 2018 she completed a Social Innovation Certificate through Mount Royal University
and was one of 10 artists invited to be a member of the Trico Changemakers Studio at
Mount Royal University. She participated in the presentation of the pilot project at the
Ashoka Changemakers conference in San Diego, Feb 2019. Her artwork is over 25
private and public collections.

Her commissions include a 90 foot sectional painting in a recreation centre that included
public engagement in a new community, a 40 foot photography work with a handmade
lens that addressed language barriers in a hospital, and steel scope with a handmade
lens on a city street that addressed environmental fragmentation. She was invited to
create a scope for the International Sculpture Garden in Burlington ON. She recently
worked with the Calgary Board of Education to address issues of migration which
culminated in a 12x16 foot mural for an outdoor learning centre. She has over 10 years
of experience in creating and maintaining websites and social media platforms for her
projects. A sketchbook has been exhibited at the Whitney Museum and The Los
Angeles County Museum of Modern Art.

In 2014 she was honoured with an Arts Advocacy Award from her professional
organization, CARFAC Alberta. She has advocated for professional development for
the visual artists, has volunteered on many boards for non-profits, most recently 2013-
18 on the Board of Directors for the Leighton Art Centre. She has been on the
selection juries for public art and served as a juror for many other arts organizations.
Her work has been covered in over 20 publications and is in over 25 major collections.
She views her drawing and painting studio as a place of balance, meditation and
