    About The Artist

Calgary based, mixed media artist, Aimy Van der Linden’s ethereal style is artistically replicated through refined, abstract depictions of the Canadian Rocky Mountains in all their laid bare glory.  Stripping away visual noise, Van der Linden renders down imagery to a base, elemental beauty that truly is the appeal of alpine landscapes.

I am beyond excited to showcase "Intimacy" my latest collection of work exhibiting at Gibson Fine Art April 22 -May 5, 2023. This collection is based on moments and experiences during my travels primarily to Revelstoke and Fernie, BC in the 2022/2023 winter season.

When experiencing the backcountry, I always find it so interesting how the environment can be harsh, cold, dangerous, isolating yet provides unwavering familiarity, beauty, and calm.  Excursions to remote locations gift me with mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual clarity.  Many of you know I travel primarily by snowmobile or snowboard in these various regions.  What I gain from my experiences goes beyond the physical benefit of play/sport. When you are surrounded by snow covered terrain, sound is silenced. A stillness sets in and you are able to connect more deeply with the experience.
  • My experiences are intimate with nature in the sense they evoke safety, affinity and closeness with the environment around me....
My experiences are intimate with nature in the sense they evoke safety, affinity and closeness with the environment around me.  The adventures I have are punctuated by seemingly personalized little surprises as I journey to the next ridge, mountain top or through a valley. From absorbing generous views along the drive to access riding areas, breaking through bad weather to find a glorious vista, enjoying the peak of a mountain, watching large snowflakes slowly float down to contact my face, or finding a charming "snow ghost" tree with enough character to stop me in my tracks.

There are endless intimate moments I have with nature along the way. I feel many of these moments are curated just for me, my soul and my well-being.
  • This sense of intimacy with nature is what I wish to offer to the viewers of this collection. The comfort and familiarity of curated intimate experiences in the Canadian backcountry during winter.
