Rachelle Kearns

Overview

Rachelle Kearns is an artist passionate about the magic of light at play, creating enchantingly luminous works that capture equally the mystical and the mundane.

Kearns skilfully allows the viewer to focus on the out of focus; to draw in a fractional moment in time when the ordinary temporarily becomes an intoxicating, crystalline, visual symphony. The artist’s work captures the intrinsic movement of light glittering off water, chandeliers dancing above a room or a subtle city of stars descending at days end. Utilizing a combination of abstract and lyrical expressionism, Kearns evokes wistful serenity brought forth through effervescent, translucent spheres of soft, multi layered hues, the effect of which is theatrical and otherworldly. It is through dramatic composition, contrast and cohesion that Kearns so gracefully produces chromatic visual music in such a way as to render the subject matter at once non-figurative and highly familiar. The illusion becomes not an illusion at all but rather an expertly choreographed homage to light.

Biography

Rachelle KearnsStimulated by study of abstract and lyrical expressionist art, Rachelle explores compositional drama with an emphasis on repetition and process in a graceful and convincing manner. Her paintings present a moment that resides somewhere between the real and the artificial - like the illusion of wind and light seen through closed eyelids. Her work displays an unerring sensitivity to line, color and form. Using acrylic paint as her medium, she redefines water, land or wind as deep, luminous bands of blended color. Points of light become overlapped and repeated layers, dancing intoxicatingly over the surface.

Rachelle continually achieves an authentic visual poetry that is aesthetic, tender and organically generated from her study and feelings of the world around her. She sees her works as giving voice to the easily overlooked, unseen, or missed moments of truth and beauty all around us - each work expressing a kind of 'faith' in her own invisible realities.
