The Time We Have Left: A new collection by David Wilson

5 - 23 October 2024
  • David Wilson has unveiled a stunning new collection, which delves into the intersections of time and memory through the lens of the urban landscape. As David explains:

"My work explores the intersections of time and memory through the lens of the urban landscape, using cities like New York as markers for the passage of both. Walking the city's streets, I seek out new experiences, viewing urban exploration as a metaphor for life’s unpredictability. The vastness of New York offers both moments of sensory overwhelm and quiet reflection, allowing me to contemplate personal relationships, family, and my work as an artist. In my studio, these reflections crystallize in my paintings, where hidden texts and symbols represent my personal engagement with the city and the complex interplay of time and memory."

    About The Artist

    David Wilson

For the past 25 years, I have had the privilege of working full-time as a visual artist. Although primarily self-taught, I have incorporated periods of formal education to enhance my practice and artistic development. With over 25 solo gallery exhibitions and more than 1,000 paintings created and sold, I am deeply grateful to my clients and collectors for their unwavering support.

Despite the extensive time I have dedicated to my practice, my curiosity about future creations remains boundless. It has been a wonderful journey so far, and I am excited to see what comes next.

Drawing from experiences and studies at Emily Carr University, my practice explores the introspective concepts of time and memory. Working with acrylic on canvas and wood panels, I depict the layered complexity of urban environments, where each element signifies the passage of time.

My work with cardboard as a substrate offers an additional layer of depth to my work in its representation of the transience of human existence. By portraying people, places, and objects, I offer tangible markers of time, inviting viewers to reflect on their own narratives.

My objective is to evoke emotions and ideas while fostering contemplation on the human condition within contemporary society. Each piece serves as a window into the rich tapestry of human experience as we celebrate life's fleeting moments.
