Audrey Mabee: Friends and Fantasies I have Known | A collection of current works paired with highlights of works from earlier explorations

13 - 30 April 2024

Audrey Mabee's whimsical yet unexpectedly contemplative work is the culmination of a career spent experimenting with colour and delving into a world of memories and forgotten secrets.

Opening Reception:  Saturday, April 13 from 1 PM to 4 PM.  Artist talk at 3 PM.

With intent, Mabee's pieces contain small, unanticipated twists with almost always, some element ever so slightly off kilter. A lively colour palette and appreciation for implied texture create an impression of lightheartedness that is juxtaposed with an unexpected, incredibly subtle undertone of melancholy.

Mabee's figurative paintings emanate from the artist's ever evolving repertoire of creative experiences, developing mid process rather than as concrete premeditated imagery.  Influenced by great modern masters and consistently intrigued by negative space, Mabee selects subject matter and colour to spark elation and joy but also to inspire mindful examination.

Mabee's work, a fine balance between logical, geometric shape and organic line, invites the viewer to examine a full range of emotions and to consider an internal analysis of space, form and mood.
