Sentient Plant Allies in Alien Landscapes | Artist Reception 6 - 9pm October 3 3 - 21 Oct 2025 Sentient Plant Allies in Alien Landscapes presents a constructed world where botanical fragments, body imagery, and memory intertwine to form new, hybrid beings. Through photography, collage, and sculpture, Maria Munar explores the space between fragmentation and wholeness—between nature, diaspora, and identity.
The process begins with macro photography that is cut, layered, and hand-assembled into dimensional paper forms. The exhibition unfolds as an imagined garden, where sentient plant-beings emerge as abstracted, organic shapes.
Throughout the work, Munar examines the mirrored sensibilities between plant life and the feminine form—how petals resemble skin, how bodies bloom, rupture, and renew. Plants become more than subject matter; they are allies, teachers, and collaborators. These works meditate on the reciprocal relationship we share with the plant world.

As someone who has lived between cultures, Munar reflects on adaptation—how to take root in unfamiliar places. These works inhabit that in-between space, using nature as a lens to explore diaspora, memory, and the possibility of growing something whole from fragmented parts.
