Going Places: By Sheila Kernan

From the dazzling bright lights and cityscapes that lure your eyes deep into Kernan's unique urban perspective, to the buzzing landscapes that breathlessly whisk you away to a fantasyland of possibility, Sheila's work speaks to a shared experience of introspection; a renewed analysis and reaffirmation to our communities and to our surroundings. The title of the show “Going Places," intimates an understood collective journey that both the artist and you the viewer have experienced independently and collectively.

"I have an inner need to play with paint, to explore my many curiosities, to challenge myself with a new task with each series I create. If I am not learning and growing then I don’t want to do it.  So, it is a good thing I love what I do and am willing to always push myself to become a better artist. Having goals is a great thing. Pushing hard brings out some exciting new discoveries and I am always excited and honoured to share them with you all. "

Curious by nature, artist Sheila Kernan continually seeks out new media and methods to enrich and expand her studio practice. With the onset and rising popularity of NFTs, Sheila was intrigued by the possibilities that NFTs offered to her as a visual artist, and she immediately saw the medium as a potential conduit that would allow clients a backroom glance into the inner workings of her studio practice, a sort of "backstage pass" into her artistic process.

In this current exhibition, “Going Places," Sheila has created two NFTs for sale. Both are original, digital preparatory drawings, one landscape titled “Washed in Sweet Light” and one city scene “Grab Your Shoes and Let’s Go/"

These two digital sketches ultimately inspired and informed two paintings in the exhibition “Today is Your Day” and “Going Places” even though they look nothing like the finished works! But through the digital sketches, we gain a valuable glance into her creative practice.
