About The Artist
For more than 60 years, Audrey Mabee has created vivid and lively paintings that combine whimsical yet unexpectedly contemplative elements; her works contain small, unanticipated twists mixed in with a dose of humour.
Mabee's figurative paintings emanate from the artist's ever-evolving repertoire of creative experiences, developing mid-process rather than as concrete premeditated imagery. Influenced by great modern masters and consistently intrigued by negative space, Mabee selects subject matter and colour not only to spark elation and joy but to inspire mindful examination.
It is our pleasure to raise a glass to Audrey and her luminous career as both a practicing artist and a fierce advocate for the visual arts in Calgary. -
Audrey Mabee is an alumnus of the Alberta University of the Arts and a former Acting President of the institution. She has served on several boards, juries, committees and foundations, including a six-year term as a member of the Board of Governors at the Alberta College of Art and Design.
