Join us at Gibson Fine Art for 'Contrasts & Reflections: Narratives in Form and Landscape,' where Glen McMinn’s interpretive realism meets Drew Klassen’s tranquil, impressionistic depictions of landscapes and florals—two distinct narratives in form and landscape. Both artists studied architecture at Dalhousie University in the early 1990s, and now, decades later, their creative paths converge. McMinn’s work delves into identity and belonging through symbolic objects and the human form, while Klassen’s serene, expansive vistas and florals explore light, substance, and form. Together, their pieces invite viewers to explore a dynamic interplay of contrasts and reflections.

"As We Fade In" refers to the opening scene of a movie. The point at which a story begins. I’ve been obsessed with movies my entire life. As a child I would prefer a black and white film over any cartoon. Sometimes it was the entire movie, other times a single scene could completely capture me. The connection was visceral and lasting.
There are many parallels between an opening scene and a moment captured on the canvas. Our own perspectives and experiences tint our perception of what we see. We decide what’s happening and create the narrative in our minds, making each new painting an endless opportunity - for the painter and the viewer - to reveal something we didn’t know about ourselves.
